Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about going solar in Kenya — from costs and batteries to installation and maintenance.
Commercial & industrial
How quickly does a commercial solar system pay for itself?
Payback depends on your tariff, daytime consumption, generator use and system size. Businesses with high daytime loads often see attractive payback periods. Our proposal includes a savings and payback estimate specific to your site.
Can solar work alongside our generator and the grid?
Yes. We design hybrid systems that integrate solar, the grid, batteries and existing generators, prioritising solar to reduce grid and diesel consumption while keeping power continuous.
Costs & financing
Do you offer warranties?
Equipment carries the manufacturer’s warranty — typically long-term performance warranties on panels and multi-year warranties on inverters and batteries. We also provide a workmanship warranty on our installations. Exact terms are listed in each proposal.
Which areas do you cover?
We serve clients across Kenya from our Nairobi head office and Mombasa branch, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale. Contact us for projects elsewhere in Kenya.
General
How much does a solar system cost in Kenya?
It depends on your energy use, how much backup you need and your site. A small home backup system costs far less than a full off-grid or commercial installation. After a site survey we provide an itemised proposal with equipment, installation costs and expected savings, so you can compare options clearly.
How long does installation take?
Most residential systems are installed in one to three days. Commercial and industrial projects typically take one to four weeks depending on size, structural work and grid-tie approvals. We agree a clear timeline with you before work begins.
Do I need a site survey before getting a quote?
We can give an indicative estimate from your electricity bills and a list of appliances, but a site survey lets our engineers check roof space, orientation, shading, structure and wiring. That ensures the system is sized correctly and avoids surprises later.
Maintenance & support
Do solar panels need maintenance?
Solar systems need little maintenance, but periodic cleaning, connection checks, inverter firmware updates and battery health checks keep them performing at their best. We offer scheduled maintenance plans and remote monitoring.
Do you service systems you did not install?
Yes. Our team can inspect, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade existing solar systems from other installers, and advise on improving performance or adding battery storage.
Solar water pumping
Can solar pump water from a borehole?
Yes. Solar water pumping systems run submersible or surface pumps directly from solar panels, with optional storage tanks so water is available when the sun is down. They eliminate fuel costs for irrigation, livestock and domestic water supply.
Residential solar
Will solar power my home during KPLC outages?
Yes — if your system includes battery storage. A hybrid system with lithium batteries switches over automatically when the grid goes down, keeping lights, sockets, fridges, Wi-Fi and other essential loads running.
Can solar run my whole house, including cooker and water heater?
It can, but heavy loads like electric cookers, instant showers and water heaters need a larger system. Often the most cost-effective approach is to run essential loads on solar and use solar water heating for hot water. We will recommend the best mix for your budget.
Batteries & backup
How long do solar batteries last?
Modern lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are typically rated for 6,000 or more charge cycles — often 10 years or longer in daily use. Older lead-acid batteries have a much shorter life. We size and configure storage to maximise battery lifespan.
What size of battery do I need?
Battery size depends on which loads you want to back up and for how long. We calculate this from your critical loads and desired backup hours, then recommend a capacity that balances performance and cost.
